The Neshannock Township Water Rescue Team was summoned to an area of the Beaver River in Taylor Township where two canoes had capsized. Two canoeists were able to make it to shore while two others remained in the water clinging to debris.
A paramedic from Noga Ambulance Service was able to climb out onto the fallen tree to make contact with the victims in the water and helped to keep them from slipping downstream. Meanwhile, Boat 100 arrived from upstream and was able to pluck the two victims and the paramedic from the branch and shuttle them to shore. One victim was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries. Unfortunately, despite feverish lifesaving efforts, one victim was declared deceased at the hospital.
The City of New Castle Fire Department’s Water Rescue Team assisted with water rescue operations while the Taylor Township Volunteer Fire Department coordinated the incident.
